Listen to pronunciation
Use the speaker to hear a word or answer, then try saying it yourself. With “deadline”, looking at the word while listening can help you connect its spelling and pronunciation.
Open the content in the app and turn on your device volume. Not every term has ready-made audio, and playback also depends on your connection and browser.
Listen while studying
- Open “English at work” and choose Flashcards or Learn.
- Look for the speaker labeled Play pronunciation. In Flashcards, audio depends on the content of the card face you are viewing.
- Click once and wait for it to load. The button may be temporarily locked while processing; repeated clicks are unnecessary.
- Listen, then try saying the word. Click again to replay when the button is ready.
In Learn, English text-based questions can offer pronunciation for the target word even when the Listening question type is off. Pronunciation is a study aid and does not change your checked answer result.
Hear an answer in Practice
If Practice is available, answer first and wait for feedback. Then click Play answer pronunciation to hear the accepted answer when available. This button does not read your incorrect answer and does not play automatically when feedback appears.
If no suitable answer text is available, the speaker may be disabled. You can still read the feedback and move to the next question.
If you cannot hear anything
Check your volume, output device, and whether the browser tab is muted. If the browser blocks playback, click the speaker directly. For a temporary error, wait until the button is ready and try again.
For a listening question in Learn, use Show text prompt when offered to continue. Missing audio does not mean the term has disappeared. You can also read the text and return to the audio later.
Keep practicing recall
Try studying with Flashcards: recall the meaning first, flip to check, then listen if audio is available.
