Add learning terms from PDF or Word
Choose words and sentence patterns from a document to practice in a lesson. Document import prepares Terms, or learning entries, for you to select and add to a Lesson. It does not create a reading containing the full document.
Before you start
Sign in and create a destination lesson, such as English at work. Prepare a PDF, a Word .docx file, or a Markdown file. Import one file at a time, up to 25 MiB. PDFs can contain up to 10 pages.
Use a document with readable text. Word .doc files, encrypted files, and image-only scanned PDFs are unsupported. If document import is unavailable, add words manually.
Upload and select terms
- In My Library, choose Import material, then Document.
- Under Choose a file to upload, select your file. Uploading starts as soon as you choose it.
- Wait for processing, then check Review terms. Review the words, meanings, and patterns before using them.
- Uncheck anything you do not need. Some matches to existing content are checked by default; terms generated from your document require you to select them after review.
- Choose the destination under Add to lesson, then press Add … terms, showing your selected count.
Check the result or return later
Successfully added terms appear in the selected lesson, not the Readings tab. Select at least one term and a lesson to enable the add button.
You can reopen the document through Import history. Closing the dialog discards your unsubmitted selection and chosen destination lesson. Review results expire after 7 days, so save the terms you need before then.
If your source is a webpage or the file fails
Direct webpage URL import is not supported. Copy the words you need and add them to a lesson manually.
If the file exceeds a limit, choose a shorter section. For a scan, use a version with readable text. If only some terms fail to add, keep the dialog open, check the message, and retry.
Practice your new terms
Open the lesson’s Flashcards to practice recalling the words.
